The Ohio Alliance for Retired Americans is concerned about the discussion being initiated that proposes cuts and means testing in Social Security and its various programs. On principle these proposals are aimed at breaking apart one of the few economic mechanisms of social cohesion and stability in our country.

A Summary of OARA Actions and Achievements in 2008
Ohio ARA committed to a two year strategic plan in 2007 encompassing five areas including 1 Organizing and Chapter Development; 2 Grassroots Political Action; 3 Grassroots Legislative Goals; 4 Local Coalition Building; 5 Central Labor Councils and Area Labor Federation Organization Building Goals.
Willing leaders wanted political change, developed and delivered an Ohio message, built structures to fit the locales of the state, and established a multilevel program the grew trust among retirees and seniors.

Senate Votes Against Entitlement Task Force
On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate voted against an amendment to the fiscal 2010 budget resolution which would have created an Entitlements Task Force to address the long-term funding shortfalls faced by Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, and requiring Congress to vote on its recommendations.
